Kinect Star Wars
was co-developed by several studios each working on a different gameplay mode. I was at Microsoft Soundlab supporting the Microsoft team working on the Jedi Adventure mode. Early on we were interested in prototyping a way to procedurally generate the lightsaber whoosh sounds based on how you swing your arm for the Kinect sensors. After some research into Ben Burtt's original methods, I came up with lightsaber sounds from scratch so we could implement a more workable version of the sound into Wwise. Ultimately the experiment didn't end up in the game, but it was a fun sound design challenge. I went on to make sounds for all the battle damage and impacts, all the force powers; created some blasters from scratch, and a droid as well. Playing around in the Star Wars universe was great fun, and a satisfying design opportunity to emulate the iconic sounds of the franchise.
