Hellgate: London

was developed by Flagship Studios and co-published by EA and Namco-Bandai.  The studio was founded by ex-employees from Blizzard North.  Hellgate was designed to innovate on the ARPG formula exemplified with Diablo, and bring with it a hybrid 1st-person/3rd-person perspective.  I was initially brought on board to help get a sound library created and organized.  Once I was done with that I was hungry to make sounds of my own.  I started off with some simple things like footsteps and doors, but was soon making sounds for guns, monsters and everything else.  Hellgate really was a sound designer's dream project with the massive amount of sci-fi guns and demonic creatures.  All of it tied together with a fantastic horror atmosphere.  It's too bad the game wasn't a commercial success.  Flagship shuttered its doors shortly after release.
