Ascend: Hand of Kul
is Signal Studios' third title published by Microsoft. It's a dark fantasy world where giant ancient gods battle for new followers. It is an interesting setting for a game, with some fun mechanics that play with a sense of scale with their creatures. Microsoft sent me over to Signal to help get the audio systems for this game off the ground. I concepted and designed everything in Audiokinetic's Wwise audio middleware. Working with the engine programmers we had the audio hooks in place for every major system including building destruction, character weapons, footsteps, and foley. I aimed to support different sounds for the weapons you use, as well as the their impacts depending on the surface or character they hit. There was also a large and varied character armor system that I added audio support to with different foley sounds for the armor and boot styles you can wear.
